Volunteer Opportunities

Our Recruitment Policy

Volunteer Network will recruit volunteers to support and enhance the work of paid staff. Volunteers will not be recruited to replace or to do the work of paid staff, and volunteers will not be recruited as strike breakers or to undermine union/worker work bans.

Volunteer Network will apply the principles of equal opportunity to its recruitment processes and will not withhold a volunteer job on the basis of race, age, gender, sexual preference, religious or political beliefs.

It is Volunteer Networks policy that our recruitment strategy and procedures are such that they develop a  volunteer team that is representative of the demographic make up of the municipality in terms of gender, ethnicity, disability and other relevant factors;

All prospective volunteers will be interviewed by someone who is suitably skilled and trained to conduct such interviews.

Volunteers will be selected on their skills and ability to meet the criteria as specified in the advertised position description.

The recruitment process will be fully transparent and open to public scrutiny.

   English Conversation Volunteers

  • Speakers Corner Project
  • Burwood
  • 1 day a week - Wednesdays - 10am to 12pm

The Speakers Corner Program has been jointly developed by CASS, Community Services Burwood Council and Volunteer Network as a resource for Chinese people in our community to enhance their English conversation skills.

The Speakers Corner Program is seeking Volunteers for this project. Volunteers are to engage members of the Chinese community in English Conversation on a range of topics to help them to enhance or practice their English skills in a socially informal environment.

Requirements:

• Good Communication and English speaking skills, be able to discuss a range of topics confidently   and show an aptitude/willingness to listen as well as speak and to have an interest in other cultures.

• Volunteers are required to attend all Interview / Training / Orientation sessions before being permitted to participate in the program.

• Accept instruction and supervision positively

• Show reliability and punctuality

 SPARK calls for volunteers to help support refugee children in schools in 2010.

 

SPARK (St Vincent de Paul Society Assisting Refugee Kids) provides refugee children and their families with community, educational and social support through primary schools. The program runs every school term at ten schools in Parramatta, Wentworthville, Merrylands, Auburn, Pendle Hill, Regents Park, Granville and Girraween.

  

SPARK is currently recruiting and training volunteers from high schools, universities and the local community to assist with the Bright Sparks program. Bright Sparks is a homework and activities club for Kindy - Year 6 Students, providing homework tutoring and English support.  The program is run once a week for 1.5 hours after school from 3 - 4.30pm. 250 children will be benefiting from the SPARK program each week in Term 1, 2010.
